Christmas Arts Crafts

Christmas arts crafts are one of the most popular things to do during the holiday season. Nothing makes Christmas more special than a few homemade decorations, cards, and gifts. Kids of all ages love Christmas arts crafts and here you can find fun, easy, and age specific crafts to help everyone find a craft that is right for them. Have fun and happy holidays!

The Growth Tree (ages 8+)

The growth tree is a perfect tradition. This craft can be done by younger children but will require adult assistance.

For this craft you will need:

- 2 yards of red and green felt
- Felt scraps of random colors
- Fabric glue
- Fabric paint
- One wooden dowel
- Two plastic 6-foot tape measures
- A 20 inch piece of yarn

1. Cut a 6-by-2-foot piece of the red felt.
2. Put glue along one long side of the red felt banner and attach one of the tape measures.
3. Repeat step number 2 on the opposite long side to attach the other tape measure. Make sure on both sides, the one is at the bottom of the felt banner.
4. Cut out a 7-by-5-inch tree trunk out of the felt scraps.
5. Center the tree trunk on red felt banner about about two inches from the bottom (at the two inch mark on the tape measure).
6. Cut five triangles that are 20 inches tall and 17 inches across the base from green felt.
7. Glue the first triangle onto the banner so the bottom overlaps the top of the tree trunk by an inch or so. The base of the triangle should be around the 7 or 8 inch mark on the tape measure.
8. Glue the second triangle down so it is covering the top half of the first one.
9. Repeat step 8 for each triangle.
10. Glue a felt star to the top of the tree.
11. Fold over the top of the banner and glue the edge to the back of the banner.
12. Insert the dowel.
13. Tie string to the ends of the dowel to hang your tree banner.
14.Cut out several 3 1/2 inch circles from different colors of felt.
15. Use fabric paint to record your height each year. Glue each circle so the top is aligned with your height on the tape measure.

The growth tree is a nice tradition to continue from year to year. It is nice to see how much you have grown over the years. Several people can be recorded on the tree which makes it easy to compare other people's heights at different ages with your own. We suggest that if you are recording many peoples' heights on the tree to use a different color circle for each person so it is easy to tell each person apart. Christmas arts crafts are fun to do with family, so don't be afraid to get everyone involved.

Gingerbread Family Decoration (ages 5+)

Make your own easy gingerbread garland to decorate your house. This is a good Christmas arts crafts project to do with your family.

For this project you will need:

- Brown paper bags
- Construction paper
- White puffy paint (to be used as pretend icing)
- Glue
-Scissors

1. Using the scissors, cut a 5-by-6 1/2-inch strip from a brown paper bag.
2. Fold the strip five times, accordion style.
3. Draw (or trace using a cookie cutter) a gingerbread person on the top layer. The hands and feet should extend to the edges.
4. Cut around the edges of the gingerbread person. Do not cut where the hands and feet touch the fold.
5. Cut out various articles of clothing from construction paper such as hats, boots, mittens, and skirts.
6. Decorate the gingerbread people by gluing the articles of clothing onto the gingerbread people. Use the puffy paint as icing to make eyes, hair, buttons, and smiles.

If this craft is being done by younger children, an adult may want to do steps 1-5 and leave the decorating to the younger children. A longer garland can be made by attaching a few garlands together. Have fun making this one of our Christmas arts crafts.
