How To Make
String Bracelets
How to Make String Bracelets can be a very easy thing to learn. However
many instructions out there are difficult to follow and very complex.
Here, we have easy to follow instructions as well as pictures to make
learning each stich as easy as possible. To start, it is important that
you learn how to make a fowards and a backwards knot. From there you
can use these knots to learn how to make string bracelets by using
different stitches like the chinese staircase stitch.
A
Foward Knot
- Cut two different colored pieces of string. The
two pieces should be the same length. One string will be string A and
one string will be string B (the string A in our picture is the green
string and string B is the pink string).
- Take string A (for example, the green string in
the picture) and fold it over string B (the pink string in the
picture). Tip: make a four with the strings.
- Loop string A around string B (the green string
was looped around the pink).
- Pull string A tightely.
- Repeat steps 2-4 once more.

A Backwards Knot
A backwards knot is
simple once you know how to complete a
forward knot.
It is the exact same
thing, but backwards.
- Cut and label two strings A and B just like
before.
- Fold stirng B over string A. Tip: make a
backwards 4.
- Loop string B around string A and pull tightely.
- Repeat steps two and three.
You now have completed a backwards knot.
Chinese Staircase (ages 6+)
This is a simply yet
cool stitch you can do after you have learned to do a fowards knot.
- Cut two or three pieces of string. The pieces
should be the same size and different colors (we used green, blue, and
purple).
- Label each string A, B, and C.
- Make a foward know with string A ( fold string
A over strings B and C to make a 4 and then loop string A around
strings B and C and pull).
- Repeat step 3 many times.
- After several stitches like 10, switch to a
different color. Do this by taking string B and folding it over strings
A and C and then loop it around strings A and C and pull.
- Repeat step 5 around the same amount of times
you repeated step number 3.
- When you want to change colors again, start
making foward knots with string C.
- Keep alternating between the strings until your
bracelet is long enough to fit around your wrist. End it by making a
knot.
