Monkey Crafts
Monkey crafts are very popular among children
because monkies are fun, playful, and exciting animals. Monkey-themed
parties are very fun and no monkey party is complete without one of our
crafts. Here you will find age-specific, fun, and easy crafts
that your whole family will enjoy. Making a craft is a great bonding
experience and making a monkey craft is a great opportunity to help
your child learn about monkies and other animals. Choose a craft, be
creative, and have fun!
Banana Name Plates (ages 5+)
This craft is a great way to help all of the party guests find their
name at the table and have fun too.
For this craft you will need:
- Yellow construction paper or foam
- A pencil
- Markers
- Scissors
- Stickers (optional)
- Trace the shape of a banana onto the yellow
construction paper or foam.
- Using scissors, cut out the shape along the
lines you drew.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have the same
amount of banana cut-outs as the number of guests.
- Write one guest's name on the front of each
banana with marker.
- Write a fact about the guest on the back of the
banana such as "This person can walk on their hands."
- Decorate each banana. Be creative.
The bananas can now be used for a game. To play, put each banana face
down, placing one in front of each chair at the table. Someone picks up
a card and reads out the fact and the other people have to guess who
the "monkey"/child is that the fact is about. If someone guesses
correct, the child takes their name card and sits down. The game
continues until everyone guesses correctly. This game is especially fun
if pizza or desert is placed on the table along with the name
cards. The child whose fact is correctly paired with them first gets to
dive into their food first.
For an added twist use this craft as a party activity. Have each guest
decorate a banana however they would like. Like before, ask
each guest to put their name on front and a fact about them on the
back. Then use the bananas to play the game as described
above. As with our other monkey crafts, feel free to take this craft
and adjust it to fit your specific needs. There are many variations you
can use that are just as fun and easy.
Monkey Faces (ages 7+)
This is a great activity to do at a party. However, monkey crafts are
just as much
fun to do by yourself or with a small group.
For this craft you will need:
- Paper plates
- Paint brushes
- Jars with water (for cleaning brushes)
- Various colors of craft paint (should include
black, brown, and white)
- Brown construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Decorating materials (bows, ribbons, string,
colorful papers, etc.)
- Give each person a paper plate.
- Turn the plate over and paint it completely
with brown paint.
- Put the paintbrush you used in the jar of water.
- Let the plate dry.
- Use the scissors to cut a medium-sized circle
out of the brown construction paper.
- Using the scissors, cut the circle in half to
form two semi-circles.
- Glue the circles on top of the plate to make
ears.
- Draw two white circle on the plate to make
eyes.
- Let the circles dry and then draw two smaller
black circles in them to complete the eyes.
- Make a black circle with paint for the nose and
draw on a smile. You can also use other things to make the nose such as
a piece of foam or a large button.
- Let each person decorate their monkey face
however they would like. Put out a variety of materials and let each
person explore with different designs for decorating their project. For
example, someone could glue a bow next to the monkeys ear to make a
hairbow. Someone else could use string to give the monkey funky hair.
Feel free to explore all of the possiblilities and be as creative as
possible.
"Just Monkeying Around" Picture Frame (ages 8+)
This monkey craft makes a great sovenier to take home after the party.
Like all of our monkey crafts, it is also a good craft for
families with a child who loves animals (especially monkeys!).
For this craft you will need:
- Popsicle sticks
- Craft paint (we suggest brown, green, and
yellow paint)
- Paint brushes
- Glue
- Tape
- Foam
- Scissors
- Monkey-themed stickers
- A camera (for taking photos for the picture
frame)
- Photo paper (for printing photos to be used in
the picture frame)
- Select a picture to be used in the picture
frame. Keep in mind you may need to trim it later.
- Take four popsicle sticks and paint them with
craft paint. We have found it is best when all the popsicle sticks are
one color, two are one color and two are another, or they are all
different colors. It looks best when you stick to monkey-related colors
such as brown, green, and yellow.
- Let the popsicle sticks dry.
- Arrange four popsicle stick in a square with
the ends touching.
- Glue the ends together. Let the frame dry.
- Tape or glue the sides of the photograph to the
back of the frame. Test the picture first to see how big it is and then
trim it to make sure none of the edges are showing over the frame.
- Decorate the frame with different
monkey-related things. Cut out leaves and bananas from the foam and
glue them on. Attach some monkey-themed stickers. It also looks nice if
you cut out a monkey from the brown construction paper or foam and glue
it on the frame. Be creative and decorate the frame how you would
like.
To give this craft a fun, personal touch and to make it a great
sovenier, take a picture of each guest in their best monkey pose. Print
out the pictures and supply them to the guests when they make their
project.
